About Mass Vehicle Security Ltd
Do you offer mobile installation?
Yes, we offer mobile fitting across most of the UK. Whether you’re at home, work or somewhere in between, we’ll come to you with everything needed to complete the job properly on-site.
We also work with a small number of trusted partner garages if you’d prefer to book in locally.
Is installation included in the price?
Yes, all our prices include full professional installation. There’s no hidden fee or added labour cost at checkout. Every system is fitted by a trained technician and tested before we leave.
What areas do you cover?
We’re based in Derby and directly serve the Midlands and Yorkshire. But through our trusted installer network, we cover most of the UK – including cities like Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, London and surrounding areas.
Do your systems come with a warranty?
All products we supply and install come with a 3-year warranty that covers both parts and workmanship. If anything goes wrong or needs adjustment, we’ll get it sorted.
Do you offer support after the install?
We do, and we take it seriously. If you have a question about how something works, need help with your app setup or just want a quick refresher on your immobiliser or tracker, we’re always happy to help. You won’t be left chasing a call centre.
Can I speak to someone before I buy?
Absolutely. We offer free phone consultations to help you decide which system fits your needs and vehicle best. We’ll explain the options clearly and won’t push you toward something you don’t need.
Immobilisers
What is a ghost immobiliser?
A ghost immobiliser is a covert anti-theft system that prevents the engine from starting unless a unique PIN code sequence is entered using your car’s existing buttons – like those on the steering wheel or dashboard.
There’s no key fob or signal to intercept, making it one of the most effective defences against keyless theft, relay attacks and cloning.
How much is a ghost immobiliser?
Prices for ghost immobilisers typically start at around £450, including professional installation.
The final cost may vary depending on your vehicle model and whether additional features (like smartphone integration) are included.
Are ghost immobilisers legal in the UK?
Yes, ghost immobilisers are completely legal to install and use. They don’t interfere with the car’s core systems and meet all UK road and safety standards.
Does a ghost immobiliser reduce insurance?
Some insurers recognise ghost immobilisers as an effective theft deterrent and may offer a discount, even though the system isn’t Thatcham-approved.
It’s worth checking with your provider, especially if you’ve had previous theft attempts or own a high-risk vehicle.
Can thieves get around a ghost immobiliser?
It’s extremely difficult. Because the system doesn’t rely on a key fob or visible hardware, thieves can’t clone or bypass it in the usual ways. It also can’t be detected by standard diagnostic tools.
That said, proper installation is crucial, and we take extra care to make our installs as stealthy and tamper-proof as possible.
Do you offer a ghost immobiliser fitting near me?
We operate directly in The Midlands and Yorkshire, but if you’re further afield, we can refer you to our trusted network of installers.
Whether you’re in a city or a rural area, we’ll do our best to get you booked in quickly and conveniently.
Trackers
What is vehicle tracking?
Vehicle tracking uses GPS to monitor your car’s location in real time. It can alert you if the car is moved without authorisation, and help police recover it if stolen.
Some systems also offer live app access, journey history, and remote immobilisation features.
How much does a car tracker cost?
Prices vary depending on the type of system. A basic GPS tracker may start around £200, while a fully monitored Thatcham-approved tracker (like an S5 or S7) typically costs between £300 and £500, including installation. Annual subscription fees for monitoring also apply.
What’s the difference between S5 and S7 trackers?
S7 trackers monitor vehicle movement and trigger an alert if the vehicle is moved without the engine running.
S5 trackers offer the same features but add driver recognition – if the ID tag isn’t present, it flags a potential theft.
S5+ systems go further by immobilising the vehicle unless the tag is present.

What is a Thatcham device?
A Thatcham-approved device is a vehicle security system that meets strict UK insurance industry standards for theft resistance and safety. Thatcham devices are tested independently and are often required by insurers for high-value or high-risk vehicles.
Are your trackers insurance approved?
Yes, we supply and install a range of Thatcham-approved trackers, including S5, S5+ and S7 systems from brands like MetaTrak, ScorpionTrack and SmarTrack.
These meet insurance criteria for many providers and may help reduce your premium.
How can I track a car?
You’ll need a tracker professionally installed – either self-monitored through a mobile app or connected to a 24/7 control centre.
Once fitted, you can view your vehicle’s location in real time, set alerts for unauthorised movement and in some cases, activate remote immobilisation.
Alarms
Do car alarms actually deter theft?
Yes, when they’re modern, professionally-fitted systems. GOV research shows visible security (like alarms and immobilisers) reduces theft risk because thieves prefer easier targets. Alarms with tilt, shock and motion sensors can detect real theft attempts such as jacking, towing or glass break and trigger a siren and/or phone alert. They’re most effective when paired with immobilisation and good habits (locking the car, not leaving keys visible) rather than used alone.
What is the best alarm system for a car?
There isn’t one “best car alarm system” for everyone – it depends on your vehicle, risk level and budget. In the UK, a good starting point is a Thatcham car alarm from a recognised brand, always professionally installed. Look for:
- Perimeter and interior protection (doors, boot, bonnet, cabin)
- Protection against keyless theft (ADR tags or encrypted Bluetooth ID)
- Options for immobilisation and, if needed, tracking and app alerts
Advanced systems like Pandora, Scorpion and Cobra offer state-of-the-art features such as driver-recognition tags, tilt sensors and smartphone control, but the right choice will depend on your insurer’s requirements and how you use the vehicle.
Why do car alarms go off?
A car alarm will trigger when its sensors detect something that looks like a theft attempt. Common causes include:
- Doors, boot or bonnet being opened
- Glass break or interior movement picked up by ultrasonic sensors
- The car being lifted, jacked or towed (tilt/motion sensors)
- Battery disconnection or voltage spikes
False alarms usually happen when sensors are badly positioned or overly sensitive, or when cheap systems are fitted poorly. High-quality alarms use adaptive sensors and proper installation to reduce nuisance triggers while still reacting fast to genuine attacks.
Can you get an alarm and immobiliser all-in-one?
Yes. Many Thatcham-approved systems combine a car alarm and immobiliser in a single unit. Examples include our Pandora Mini BT, Pandora Smart, Pandora Smart Pro, Pandora Van Smart, Pandora Camper Motorhome system and the Cobra 4822 Cat 2-1.
Are car alarms Thatcham-approved?
Some are, some aren’t. “Thatcham-approved” means the alarm has passed independent testing by Thatcham Research, who set security standards used by UK insurers.
Thatcham-approved alarms are grouped into categories (for example, Cat 1 for combined alarm and immobiliser, or Cat 2–1 upgrades). Using a Thatcham-approved car security alarm can help with insurance acceptance and may qualify you for discounts, especially on higher-risk or high-value vehicles.
All Pandora and Cobra car alarms available on our website are Thatcham-approved.
